Frequently Asked Questions

I don’t know anything about politics but I want to get involved. Help!

We often hear that politics can seem murky and complicated - but it doesn’t have to be that way.

Whether you want to turn knowledge into action or simply want to be better informed at the ballot box, we got you!

Keep an eye out for our upcoming events, which will aim to equip you with the tools to navigate our political landscape. Subscribe to our newsletter and follow our socials to receive political analysis and information on the regular.

And if that doesn’t quash your thirst for knowledge, drop us a line and we’ll be in touch.

Do I need to be involved in a political party to create change?

Hell to the nope!

As a registered South Australian voter, you got all the power you need. You might just need the knowledge and understanding to make your vote work for you.

That’s where we come in.

As we creep closer to 2022 - which could see elections at a local, state and federal level - we’ll be offering you opportunities to engage with women candidates, regardless of their political colours.

If you’d interested in running for office, we can work together to find a political party which fits your ideology and values - or we can support you to run independently.

It’s all up to you. The power is in your hands.

I want to engage Suffragette Group for my preselection or election campaign. Is there a cost?

Short answer, yes - but there’s a HUGE but.

At Suffragette Group, we appreciate that competitive campaigns can be expensive. We have to make every dollar count.

We also know that women candidates can face financial and time pressures that male candidates may not. After all, it’s another sunny day for the Patriarchy.

Through engaging Suffragette Group, you are accessing a strong community of women who want to support women, networking and potential mentorship opportunities, prospective volunteers and donors, as well as crucial strategic advice, bold communications and, most importantly, on-the-ground support. You’re never doing it alone.

We’re not here for the big bucks - we’re here to support you. Together, we can work to put together a plan that doesn’t blow your budget.

And hey! Hot coffees, preliminary chats and pep talks are always free!

I’m a business owner and I want to support women. How do I help?

Girrrrrrl, are we glad you asked!

There are many ways businesses can support women candidates - showing your support by popping a poster in your front window is the perfect start.

However, if you have a space suitable for events, a potential campaign office requiring a short-term tenant, goods to donate for fundraising or campaign office fitouts, or if you’re a photographer, graphic designer or printer - we’d LOVE you to slide into our DMs.

We’re continuing to explore new opportunities to give women candidates an edge and, if you dig our vibe, we’d love to work with you. Let’s chat!

What does supporting women candidates involve?

Believe us, no matter your circumstances, you can make a difference.

Once you’ve found a candidate who shares your values, experiences or vision, there are many exciting, meaningful ways to spread the word.

This can range from making a financial contribution, volunteering a few hours on their campaign, popping their poster on your fence or simply telling your friends.

Over the coming months, keep an eye on our newsletter and hit up our socials for more tips on how you can contribute and help women take their seats!

Together, we can shake up the political game.

I don’t see any women candidates or Members of Parliament I can identify with.

…What do I do?

We get it. Given the small number of women currently in the Parliament or preselected by major parties, it might be hard to find a candidate that fries your burger. So to speak.

Firstly, remember that party messaging doesn’t maketh the woman. No one is born spouting three word slogans. Well, we hope!

Instead, look beyond the spin. Ask some questions. We’ll be profiling current and potential leaders in the lead-up to 2022, which will give you greater insight to the motivations, life experiences and beliefs of those seeking your vote, away from crappy, archaic party branding.

And if all else fails, look around your community - and perhaps in the mirror! - for women who do reflect your views and values that might be interested in running.

After all: if not you, then who? If not now, when?
